It's that time of year when everyone is ready for sunshine and warmer weather! Winter has lasted way too long, and most of us are impatiently waiting to break out our spring clothes! So how do you fashionably transition from winter to spring? I'm sharing some of my Do's and Don'ts for transitioning your wardrobe on the blog today!
DO Start to slowly incorporate bright colors
Throw on a bright, patterned scarf or use a handbag in colors such as red, blue, or green to add some color to your wardrobe. Our HoboBags are Perfect for starting the transition, especially because they come in SO many colors and styles!
DON'T wear cold and warm weather accessories at the same time
Once you've brought out the dresses or pencil skirts without tights, it's time to leave your hats and mittens in the closet for next year. Instead, layer up with a cute cardigan or long T underneath, booties, and scarf if necessary.
DO Get creative with how you layer outfits
It still may be too cold for just a light jacket and a T-shirt, but that doesn't mean you need to wear bulky sweaters until May. Instead, try layering a cardigan under your blazer for an extra layer of warmth without the look of winter.
DON'T bust out the sundresses quite yet!
Dark winter boots and bright spaghetti strapped dresses isn't flattering on anyone, so just wait until it warms up outside to where you can pair your beautiful dresses with cute sandals and heels! You'll have plenty of time in late spring and summer to wear as many dresses as you want, so don't rush. Instead, mix leggings and tunics with booties to give you the spring look while staying warm.
DO Hit the town in colorful shoes.
Colorful shoes- like these emerald green heels- are perfect for adding a little spring into your step. And when the color of 2017 is green, who can't resist starting that trend as soon as they can! Dark pants or a neutral skirt and tights will keep the look from getting too wild.
I hope these tips give you a little help when making the transition from winter to spring! Our new spring collections are in the store, so be sure to check them out! Many of the pieces are perfect for incorporating these tips for now and you can continue to wear them throughout the year! I guess I've been on a salmon kick lately, but I saw this recipe from Kayla Itsines, The Bikini Body 28-Day Healthy Eating & Lifestyle Guide, and I knew I had to try it. I follow her workout guides and eating guides religiously. She has the same philosophy as I do about being healthy and fit. Your body needs all food groups including carbs and good fats. The secret is to eat fresh, unprocessed foods, not "low-carb, low-fat, reduced calorie" foods. With omega-3-packed salmon (great for a mood boost!), fresh veggies, and plenty of fresh and healthy fixings, this light take on a burger will be even more flavorful than the ones you're used to.

Yields: 2 burgers + salad
Cook Time: 20 minutes prep time, 30 minutes chill time, 15 minutes cook time
I made my burgers without the caper yogurt the first time because I'm not a huge "sauce" fan and they were absolutely delicious! The second time, I got some courage and made them with the caper yogurt, and they were amazing too! The yogurt definitely adds a little extra oomph! to the burgers, so if you love flavor the caper yogurt is a must. I also put the yogurt on a piece of grilled salmon that I had for lunch one day, so there are lots of ways to use the sauce if you don't use it all on your burgers.
Eating healthy doesn't have to be boring. I hope some of these recipes I post show you that!
This week's outfit of the week is perfect for an everyday look that can be worn so many ways! I paired a collared button down, with a Wooden Ships sweater (so soft!), added skinnies, a suede bootie, and that suede trench I talked about last week!
Voila! It's the perfect way to look pulled together any day of the week!
I love how effortless the entire outfit looks. You can wear this anywhere. Running Errands. Church. Brunch. Shopping. The options are endless.
If you like a more fitted sweater, definitely go with your normal size. I sized up into a medium to get the oversized sweater look I've been loving this season.
You could easily style the sweater and button down with corduroy skinnies or a ankle-length dress pant and make it work appropriate too (if your office allows business casual). Just add heels or a pointed toe flat!
The Hobo Bag I've paired with the outfit is also a perfect work essential! It will fit everything you need while still looking cute! The color is also to die for. I love that it's not too brown, so I can still pair it with black (like the trench and booties)!
Last, but definitely not least, let's talk about the gorgeous Uno de 50 necklace I wore! This is a necklace you can get so many wears out of! From pairing it with outfits like this, it would also be perfect with crew neck tees or dresses too once it gets a little warmer out. I love the multiple chain look with the little gems sporadically placed to add a little shimmer to the necklace. I don't think you can go wrong by owning this one!
I hope you enjoyed this week's outfit of the week!
This week I put together the hottest trends in home decor for 2017. We are keeping some trends from 2016 such as neutrals, especially gray, but most are new for 2017! 2016 was full of DIY projects and quick and easy designs, but 2017 is focused on curating your home with beautiful and unique artisan pieces that will sure to be the next conversation starter at your dinner parties! Enjoy!
Does the thought of bold colors anywhere in your home make you feel a tinge of anxiety? Don’t fret—it’s all about neutrals in the year ahead. Light grays, white, camel, beige, and blush pink are all in for this year.
Gray was a prominent color in 2016 interiors and it will continue to reign in 2017. “We will see different tones of gray, a lot of gray and white, and gray in deeper colors," Smith says. It’s the sort of color that complements a full spectrum of shades, from bold red to mellow ivory.
NAVY IS THE NEW BLACK
Navy will be the alternative to traditional black this year, and it adds a modern twist to our classic designs. It's also the perfect color for small spaces because it doesn't make spaces seem small like black can do.
Green is probably the biggest trend of 2017. From lime green to emerald, you'll see every shade of green in home decor, fashion and commercial design in 2017. Named the 2017 Pantone Color Of The Year, "Greenery" is meant to represent refreshment and revitalization — something we all could use in a complex social and political environment.
If you're not looking to repaint your walls or buy a bright green area rug, we have lots of small pieces such as artificial greenery that will bring the trend into your home without a major redesign.
The last few years we have been bombarded by DIY projects on Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook. 2017, however, is taking a turn back to high-quality artisan crafted pieces rather than "quick + easy." Look for unique and quality pieces that can only be made with expert knowledge of the craft such as one of a kind paintings or hand blown glass vases.
As we turn toward artisan goods this year, there will also be an emergence of "raw whites" - think bone white or chalky whites. While bright whites can look sterile in your home, raw whites look earthy and organize. They also provide some texture in your space with their imperfections.
Weaving texture into an interior makes it more inviting and the idea of mixing fabrics and materials will be on the rise. We are seeing more and more texture in every form, from brushed brass tables to light fixtures to fabrics and wallpapers. A quick way to test the trend: Drape a nubby wool throw over a leather chair or mix fabrics used for decorative pillows.
Your goal should always be to create a home that feels curated, and an easy way to accomplish this is through pattern. We are planning to see inventive geometrics that speak to ancient cultures, whether it is African or Asian patterns with a modern twist. Think simple lines, geometric designs, and triangles.
Think of lighting as an accessory for your home—it’s the perfect way to show off your unique design sensibility. If you live in a smaller space, consider sprucing up your bedside lamps with something memorable. We have a great selection of modern + unique overhead lights and lamps in the store, and we can always special order!

With a new year comes new revelations on how you want this year to be different than the last. Each year, most people reflect on the past year and think of things they want to change for the upcoming year. Many of us will set resolutions. These help us to stay on track with our goals, but after a few months, we will start to fade on working toward our goals... Many times this is because we get busy with the everyday hustle and bustle of life and tell ourselves "we will do it tomorrow." As we get closer to the end of January and into February, I begin to hear this phrase a lot more often from my family and friends. I know, life can get in the way of our goals and aspirations, but it's up to us to stick with it after those first 30 days have gone.
Change can happen, but commitment focus is necessary.
That's why this year I decided on a focus word. A focus word is a concept where you choose one word to "focus" on throughout the year rather than a long list of resolutions that never get finished. I chose the word nurture for 2017. This year I'm going to focus on nurturing my life through self-care, fitness, my relationship with God, and my relationships with family and friends.
It can be so easy to forgot how important it is to take care of ourselves in the high-paced world we live in. I know I have a difficult time doing it myself trying to juggle graduate school, a internship, and a research assistantship. That's why want to nurture my entire life this year. By striving to nurture my life, I want to focus on taking time each week to do something I enjoy. I plan to focus on reading my devotional daily and going to mass weekly. I plan to spend time at the gym focusing on my health and new fitness goals, not the list of things I need to do when I leave. I am going to focus on my relationships by calling my parents and family more, along with trying to be better about keeping up with friends.
By choosing a focus word, I don't have an "end" I need to meet to complete my goals, rather my year is spent working toward a better me. One thing I came to realize this past year is our goals are not defined by 365 day intervals. They are a working process, just like our lives. Every step and stage we pass through to achieve our goal, is much more important than finishing it by the end of the year. I think it's so important that we remember every step, however small, is better than no steps at all. That's why I think a focus word is so important in our lives. It keeps us centered and focused on the process, rather than the end result.
Stop by the shoppe this week and check out all of our agendas, calendars, notepads, and journals to help you stay on track and document all the progress you'll make on becoming a better you! I hope this inspires you to stick with your goals this year.
