Summertime means vacations, long weekends, and usually a less structured schedule than usual. While we all need this time to relax and recharge, it can make it very hard to stick with our fitness routine. Since I love to travel and have tried to find ways to combat lying on the beach all day for the 6 days of my vacation, I thought I'd share my favorite ways to stay healthy + fit on vacation!
Bring workout clothes
You can't work out if you don't bring workout clothes, so this is the first step in staying fit on vacation! I always try to bring a couple tanks, shorts, and sports bras along on any trip because they're great for hitting the gym or hiking around the area. One of my favorite brands is good hYOUman. You can shop their collection here!
Water is your best Friend
It is so hard for me to remember to drink water while I’m traveling. Am I the only one or does anyone else feel this way too?! My pro tip to solving this problem is packing a S'well bottle in your carry on (shop ours here) to fill up before you get on the plane! Once you get to your destination, try to keep that S'well with you at all times! Not only will it help your skin look great, it will deter you from mindless snacking or from feeling hungry all the time. I love a glass or two of wine at dinner or a vodka soda at the beach, but I always try to drink one glass of water in-between to keep me hydrated! This also helps you stay sober, so you won't be the girl no one wants to be on vacation.
walk as much as you can
This is such an easy way to implement some exercise into your vacation. Instead of taking a cab to the restaurant, see if it's close enough to walk to. Another great option if you don't want to walk everywhere is to see if your hotel or somewhere nearby rents bikes! Biking is a great way to see the city from outside a car. Plus, it's a great leg workout! This tip will also save you some money because you won't be paying for cab trips and tips everyday! You can save that money up for an extra special dinner or treat yourself to a nice "souvenir."
This is my favorite part about traveling. I love to find beautiful places to run where I can take in the scenery and see the location from a different viewpoint. When I was in Greece, we spent a couple nights in this town right next to the Mediterranean Sea. There was a promenade that stretched from the city center all along the ocean. I ran that path a few mornings to watch the sunrise and believe me, it was worth it! The views are something I'll never forget! If you seek out moments like these, you won't even realize you're staying healthy on vacation.
don't sweat it
This might sound counter intuitive to my entire post, but seriously…remember that food is not your enemy. You're on vacation. Relax and have fun. Let yourself have a glass of wine or two at dinner or grab an ice cream cone for an afternoon snack! Try and keep the mindset of ‘everything in moderation.’ Let yourself enjoy the food, just try and not over do it. Easier said than done, I know. But remember, as long as you're coming back from vacation as happy, relaxed, and rejuvenated as you expected to, nothing else matters!
Do you have any tips on you stay healthy on vacation? I'd love to hear them!
